How it is made
Split tees are forged or fabricated from pipe and plate as a full-encirclement or saddle body sized to a specific run pipe, then heat treated and machined to the approved drawing. High-yield pipeline bodies (A860 WPHY) are normalised, normalised & tempered or quenched & tempered to meet the grade. Longitudinal and outlet welds are made to a qualified procedure and inspected after welding and heat treatment. Supplying the split tee is separate from the in-service hot-tap, tapping or line-stopping operation, which the qualified operator or contractor carries out under their own procedures, the applicable code and verified equipment compatibility.

Frequently asked questions
What is a split tee?
A split tee, also called a saddle or full-encirclement tee, is a branch fitting that fits around an existing run pipe to give a reinforced outlet, typically for a hot-tap or in-service branch connection. Full-encirclement types wrap the run completely; saddle types cover part of the circumference.
Do you carry out the hot-tap or line-stopping operation?
No. We supply the split tee / hot-tap fitting to the design specification. The in-service hot-tap, tapping and line-stopping operation is carried out by the qualified operator or contractor under their own procedures and the applicable code (for example API RP 2201), subject to operator approval and verified equipment compatibility.
How is the branch reinforced?
By the saddle or full-encirclement body design; where an integrally reinforced outlet is used, MSS SP-97 outlets apply. The branch is assessed for pressure and external loads against the pipeline design.
Is the run (host) pipe supplied with the fitting?
No. The existing run pipe is an input to the design, not part of the fitting supply. We need the run outside diameter, wall or schedule, grade and design conditions to supply a matching split tee.
Which grades and standards apply?
Carbon, high-yield (A860 WPHY), alloy, stainless, duplex and nickel grades, confirmed per order; body to ASME B16.9 and MSS SP-75 with MSS SP-97 outlets where used, and NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 for sour service where specified.
What documentation is provided?
EN 10204 3.1 as standard and 3.2 with third-party endorsement, plus PMI, NDE and dimensional records as specified on the order.
