Basic Description

Sagiant Piping Industries supports enquiries for INCOLOY alloy pipes, tubes, butt weld fittings, forged fittings, flanges, bars and other specified product forms. Core grades are 800 (UNS N08800), 800H (N08810), 800HT (N08811), 825 (N08825), 925 (N09925) and 020 (N08020), with wider family names available reference-only or to order. These iron-nickel-chromium alloys combine high-temperature creep strength (800H/800HT) with aqueous acid and chloride corrosion resistance (825/020) and age-hardened strength (925). Grades are compared by composition, supply condition, applicable ASTM/ASME standard and service environment before selection, and availability, inspection scope and documentation (EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2) are confirmed against each enquiry. INCOLOY is a registered trademark of Special Metals Corporation; Sagiant is an independent supplier and stockist, not the alloy producer.

Producer reference limits; “bal” denotes balance and is not a fixed value; a dash means not separately specified, not zero. Carbon and grain-size control distinguish 800 / 800H / 800HT and belong to the ordered specification. These are not independently verified current limits for every product specification — the purchase specification edition and heat/product certificate control acceptance.

“Core” grades have completed technical records; “Reference” names are established in manufacturer literature and are quoted as reference-only until form, specification and availability are confirmed — a listing is not a stock or availability statement. Aliases (20/020, 28/028) are normalised, not duplicated. UNS cross-references are not substitution approvals. Do not confuse INCONEL 600/625/718 (nickel-based) with the INCOLOY family; 901 (NIMONIC) and 902 (NI-SPAN-C) are separate families.

Indicative requirements shown against the referenced ASTM product specification; the exact grade, product form, size interval, heat treatment, orientation and test method must be confirmed on the certificate. Specification minima, specification maxima and typical producer measurements are different datasets and are kept separate. 800H and 800HT are combined here for space but are separate certified grades. Elevated-temperature tensile, creep/stress-rupture (800H/800HT), hardness, impact and fatigue data are taken from the ordered specification; design-code allowable stresses are not derived from tensile strength.

Producer reference densities near ambient. Melting ranges are not service temperatures. Use the grade-specific density in the weight calculator, not one generic value. Young’s and shear modulus, Poisson’s ratio, specific heat, thermal conductivity, mean thermal-expansion coefficient (with its interval), electrical resistivity and magnetic permeability are provided per grade on enquiry with temperature/condition. Do not treat the family as “essentially non-magnetic” — controlled-expansion grade 909F has a ferromagnetic-to-paramagnetic transition. Controlled-expansion grades (903/907/909) need their expansion curve and heat-treatment dependence.

Forgings / flangesB564 (included grades) + rating basisB16.5 dimensions/ratings are a separate requirement

A routing matrix for specification review, not a universal certification. Where invoked, general-requirement standards B829 (seamless tubular), B751 (welded tube), B775 (welded pipe) and B906 (flat) also apply. ASTM and ASME SB adoption editions are not automatically identical; for European purchasing record the applicable EN product standard, not merely “EN”. Construction codes (B31.3 / B31.1 / BPVC) define pressure design; a material standard does not by itself establish pressure suitability.

Available Forms, Sizes & Availability

Availability is confirmed per enquiry with stocked / sourced / made-to-order status — the ranges below are indicative, not a statement that every grade is held in every size, schedule and condition.

FormSize rangeWall / thickness / ratingDimensional / material route
Seamless pipe1/8" – 24" NPS (DN 6–600)Specified schedule / wall; S schedules and STD/XS/XXS are not one continuous seriesB36.10M dims; B407 / B423 material
Welded pipeto larger diameters where offeredSpecified wallB36.10M dims; B514 / B705 material
Tube (OD × wall)6–50 mm OD (tube OD is not NPS)1–6 mm wall; avg- or min-wall basis statedB163 / B515 / B704 material
FlangesClass 150–1500 to NPS 24; Class 2500 to NPS 12 onlyFacing / bore / rating per classB16.5 dims; B564 material
Bar / platebar 6–250 mm; plate per orderAnnealed / solution-treated / aged as orderedB408/B425 (bar); B409/B424 (flat)

Class 2500 is a flange pressure class, not “2500 psi”, and B16.5 Class 2500 extends only to NPS 12. STD/XS do not always equal Sch 40/80, and 40S/80S differ from 40/80 at some sizes. Keep dimensional standards (B36.10 / B36.19) separate from material specifications. Finished fasteners need a component/fastener acceptance basis; a bar specification alone is not sufficient. See the schedule chart and weight calculator.

Corrosion & Temperature Selection

  • 825 / 020: aqueous corrosion in sulphuric and phosphoric acids, with chloride pitting and stress-corrosion-cracking resistance from Ni, Mo and Cu. Resistance depends on acid concentration, temperature, aeration, contaminants and condition — not immunity.
  • 825 temperature: exposure above approximately 540°C can cause phase changes that reduce ductility and impact toughness — this is a metallurgical caution, not a universal maximum service temperature.
  • 800H / 800HT: high-temperature creep and stress-rupture strength; oxidation resistance is atmosphere-dependent (carburisation, sulfidation, nitridation). A single “~1100°C” figure is not a pressure-design temperature — separate time/stress-dependent creep from oxidation limits.
  • Corrosion review covers general corrosion, pitting, crevice attack, chloride SCC, intergranular attack/sensitisation and, where applicable, sour-service cracking. Numerical rates require solution, concentration, temperature, aeration, velocity, time and method.
  • Sour service: ISO 15156-3 / NACE MR0175 qualification depends on the exact alloy, condition, hardness, processing and the H₂S / chloride / pH / temperature envelope. Chemistry identification (MTC / PMI) alone cannot establish it.

Welding, Fabrication & Machining

  • Clean and control contamination before forming/welding; use a qualified WPS/PQR and welders where applicable.
  • Filler is chosen by service, process, joint, dilution and post-weld condition — not simply a composition match. For 825, nickel-chromium-molybdenum (625-family, e.g. ERNiCrMo-3) consumables are commonly selected for particular service; an over-alloyed filler may be preferred.
  • Solid-solution grades (800/800H/800HT, 825, 020) usually need no PWHT; 800H/800HT require their specified solution treatment and grain-size control, and precipitation-hardening 925 needs its solution-and-age treatment — there is no single universal cycle or filler.
  • 925 age hardening must be accounted for in machining, forming and welding sequence.
  • Machining: control cutting speed, feed, tool engagement and coolant to avoid rubbing and work hardening; use rigid setups and positive engagement.

Testing & Documentation

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Incoloy 800, 800H and 800HT?

They share the nominal Ni-Fe-Cr composition but differ in carbon, aluminium+titanium and grain size. 800 (lower, wider carbon) suits general and corrosion duty; 800H adds controlled carbon (0.05–0.10) and a coarse grain size (ASTM 5 or coarser) for creep strength; 800HT further restricts carbon (0.06–0.10) and combined Al+Ti (0.85–1.20). They are separate UNS numbers — N08800, N08810 and N08811.

Can one product be dual-certified to both 800H and 800HT?

Only when the delivered heat and product actually meet both grades’ full chemistry, heat-treatment and grain-size requirements — chemistry overlap alone does not make 800H automatically qualify as 800HT. Dual certification must be shown on the certificate for the specific product.

How do Incoloy 825 and 925 differ?

825 is a solid-solution iron-nickel-chromium-molybdenum-copper alloy for aqueous acid and chloride corrosion. 925 has a similar corrosion base but adds titanium and aluminium and is precipitation-hardened (solution-treated and aged) for much higher strength, typically for sour oilfield hardware. They are selected for different duties and conditions.

Is alloy 020 the same as “Carpenter 20”?

Alloy 020 / INCOLOY 020 is UNS N08020, the same designation commonly known as Alloy 20; “Carpenter 20” is a trade name for material to that designation. We identify material by UNS N08020 and the applicable specification rather than a branded provenance — see the Alloy 20 page.

Does an MTC or PMI report prove sour-service (NACE) suitability?

No. ISO 15156-3 / NACE MR0175 acceptance depends on the exact alloy, condition, hardness, processing and the environmental envelope (H₂S partial pressure, chloride, pH, temperature, stress). A mill certificate reports the heat and handheld PMI confirms major elements only; neither establishes environmental qualification.

What is the maximum service temperature for Incoloy 825?

There is no single universal maximum. The producer cautions that exposure above about 540°C can cause phase changes reducing ductility and impact performance, and the governing design code, corrosion and stress also set limits. A melting range is not a service temperature.

Do schedule numbers indicate a pressure rating?

No. A pipe schedule (for example 40S, 80S, STD, XS, XXS) is a wall-thickness designation, and a flange Class (150–2500) is a pressure class, not a pressure in psi. Pressure suitability requires the material, temperature, design code and joint details together.

Which standards apply to Incoloy 800 versus 825 pipe?

They are separate. 800-family seamless pipe/tube is ASTM B407 (welded pipe B514, welded tube B515), while 825 seamless pipe/tube is B423 (welded pipe B705, welded tube B704). Pipe and tube are ordered differently and are not interchangeable, and legacy 020 references (B729/B473/B463) are now withdrawn.

What is the difference between EN 10204 3.1 and 3.2 certificates?

A 3.1 certificate is validated by the manufacturer’s authorised inspection representative; a 3.2 certificate additionally requires validation by an independent (for example third-party or customer) inspector under an agreed arrangement. Specify which is required, and any hold points, at ordering — “TPI” and “3.2” are not interchangeable.

What information is needed for a quotation?

Provide the grade and UNS, product form, standard and edition, condition (annealed / solution-annealed / aged), dimensions and wall, quantity, service environment and temperature, required testing (chemistry, corrosion method/acceptance, NDE) and inspection document, and delivery location. Availability and inspection scope are confirmed with the quotation.
