Basic Description

Sagiant Piping Industries supports enquiries for HAYNES® high-temperature alloys — Haynes 188 (UNS R30188), 230 (N06230), 25/L605 (R30605), 214 (N07214) and 282 (N07208), with a wider catalogue directory — as bar, plate, sheet, strip, forgings, fasteners and tube for gas-turbine, aerospace and industrial heating applications. These cobalt-, nickel- and iron-base alloys retain strength and oxidation resistance at high temperature, but oxidation resistance, creep strength and permissible design temperature are different properties, so no single family-wide temperature range is quoted — usable temperature depends on alloy, atmosphere, stress, duration and cycles. Grades are compared by composition, condition, verified specification by product form and service; specification acceptance limits and editions are confirmed per order with EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2 documentation. HAYNES is a trademark of Haynes International; Sagiant is an independent supplier and stockist, not the producer or an authorised distributor, and catalogue availability does not prove stock.

Chemical Composition (wt %)

Nominal / producer composition checkpoints (values without inequality signs are nominal, not minima or maxima). These do not replace the contracted specification, which can impose additional residual limits; a dash is not zero.

Aluminium (214, 282) and molybdenum (282) are shown in their own columns rather than combined with Co/W. Specification limits, nominal composition and the actual heat analysis on the certificate are different datasets; the mill certificate governs. Every additional grade carries its own complete producer table.

Alloy identity and designation cross-reference

Equal UNS does not establish equal product standards, melt practice, grain size, heat treatment, fatigue properties or code acceptance.
GradeUNSEN / WerkstoffFamilyNotes
Haynes 188R30188—Co-Ni-Cr-W (solid-solution)Lanthanum-bearing; combustor/afterburner sheet
Haynes 230N062302.4733 (verify condition)Ni-Cr-W-Mo (solid-solution)230-W is a welding product, not a universal substitute for wrought 230
Haynes 25 / L605R306052.4964 (verify condition)Co-Cr-W-Ni (solid-solution)25/L605 is an identity cross-reference, not proof of implant/cold-worked product qualification

Haynes 282N07208—Ni-Cr-Co-Mo (gamma-prime)Precipitation-hardened; solution-treated + aged

Welding fillers, powders, castings, wrought stock and additive components are separate applicability records. European designations (2.4733, 2.4964) are verified against the actual standard and supply condition before interchangeability is claimed.

Mechanical Properties

Typical room-temperature producer values — not universal acceptance minima. Each figure depends on product form, dimensions and condition; 282 is in the aged condition.
Grade (condition)Tensile (MPa)Yield 0.2% (MPa)Elong. %
188 (annealed)~960~464~50
230 (annealed)~860~390~48
25 / L605 (annealed)~1010~445~52
214 (annealed)Per 214 producer datasheet, form- and condition-specific — confirmed per order
282 (solution + aged)~1140~720~24

Acceptance minima come from the selected specification, form and condition. Elevated-temperature tensile, creep (stress/temperature/time/strain), stress-rupture, fatigue, weld and thermal-exposure data are supplied with the applicable qualified dataset, otherwise identified as unavailable; code allowable stresses are distinguished from producer rupture averages.

Physical Properties

Producer reference physical data (temperature-dependent; confirm the checked revision and units).
GradeDensityMelting rangeNotes
188~8.98 g/cm³Per producer datasheetSolid-solution, essentially non-magnetic
230~8.97 g/cm³Per producer datasheetSolid-solution
25 / L605~9.13 g/cm³Per producer datasheetSolid-solution
2148.05 g/cm³1355–1400°CAlumina-forming
282Per 282 datasheetPer producer datasheetGamma-prime strengthened

Heat capacity, thermal conductivity, electrical resistivity, elastic/shear modulus, Poisson’s ratio and mean expansion follow each grade’s own temperature series and are supplied per grade rather than forced into a single row. A melting interval is not a maximum operating temperature; a “non-magnetic” statement is qualified with field and condition.

Standards by Grade & Product Form

Verified specification mapping by grade — material standards distinguished from dimensional standards; editions confirmed per order. Grades do not inherit each other’s standard lists.
GradeVerified references by form
188AMS 5608 (flat products); AMS 5772 (billet/rod/bar & forgings)
230AMS 5878 / ASTM B435 (flat); AMS 5891 / B572 (bar); B622 (seamless pipe/tube); B619 (welded pipe); B626 (welded tube); verify B366 fittings & B564 forgings per order edition
25 / L605AMS 5537 (flat products); AMS 5759 (billet/rod/bar & forgings)
214Verified specification per actual form, or customer specification awaiting confirmation (no blanket “AMS-style”)
282AMS 5951 (sheet/strip/plate, solution-treated, precipitation-heat-treatable) — not a blanket bar/forging specification

A dimensional standard (B16.5, B16.9, B36.10M/B36.19M) or Class number does not by itself certify a Haynes alloy or its pressure rating. ASTM is not converted to ASME by adding “SB” without confirming adoption and edition. For medical L605, the actual implant-material specification and product qualification are required — generic AMS stock is not advertised as implant-qualified on a chemistry cross-reference alone.

Grade directory (catalogue reference)

Wider HAYNES high-temperature portfolio for enquiry reference — a catalogue directory, not a stock list. Availability, current chemistry and full datasets are confirmed per grade on enquiry.

MULTIMET, HASTELLOY S / W / XR30155, N06635, N10004, N06002 (cross-linked, not relabelled)

Each record carries commercial name, UNS, applicable national designation, base family, strengthening mechanism, forms, condition and verification status; a guessed UNS is never assigned to a newer grade. Corrosion-resistant HASTELLOY grades (B-3, C-22, C-276, C-2000, G-30/G-35, N and others) sit under the Hastelloy page. Legacy, developmental, consumable and special-order names are held in a separate register with producer confirmation and source date.

Available Forms, Sizes & Dimensions

Indicative supply scope by form — confirmed grade-by-grade on enquiry, with stocked / mill-order / custom status. Producer availability does not prove Sagiant stock.
FormBasis
Plate / sheet / strip / foilBy grade, thickness & tolerance; combustor sheet for 188/L605
Bar / billet / forging / ringBy grade, dimension & condition (solution / aged)
Wire / fastenerOwn material & mechanical requirements, threads, condition & test plan
Seamless tube (e.g. 230)B622 route where offered; OD × wall, nominal/minimum wall basis
Welded tube (230)B626 — welded tube (stated explicitly); thin-wall aircraft/heat-exchanger tubing uses OD × wall, not a pipe schedule
PipeOnly valid supported NPS/schedule combinations; B36.10M/B36.19M are dimensional references, not material approval
Fittings / flangesExact grade/material spec, route, dimensional standard, bore, facing, class & pressure-temperature basis

A B16 designation or Class number alone does not prove a Haynes-alloy pressure rating, and a schedule table is not fabricated for grades with no verified pipe supply. Bar and sheet ranges are stated per confirmed grade/form rather than as blanket dimensions.

Temperature, Oxidation & Corrosion

Oxidation resistance, creep strength and permissible design temperature are different properties — guidance needs alloy, atmosphere, stress, duration, cycles and section thickness.
AspectConsideration
Oxidation214 offers very high oxidation resistance within defined test/service conditions (not an unrestricted “best of family” ranking); 188/230 also strongly oxidation-resistant
MechanismsOxidation, carburisation, nitridation, sulfidation, molten salts, metal dusting and thermal cycling assessed separately
AqueousA high-temperature alloy is not automatically an aggressive-acid alloy — aqueous corrosion is confirmed for the actual fluid
Design temperatureNo single family-wide operating range; usable temperature depends on stress, duration, cycles and atmosphere

Each application is paired with its selection reason and limitation rather than a blanket temperature figure; resistance is not immunity.

Welding, Heat Treatment & Fabrication

Alloy- and procedure-specific guidance; each grade/form has its own cycle. Weld procedures are qualified for the intended service.
TopicGuidance
Heat treatmentNo universal anneal — each grade/form has its own solution temperature, hold, cooling and (where applicable) aging. Example: 282 solution treatment then ~1010°C/2 h/air cool + ~788°C/8 h/air cool (does not replace the solution step or an order-specific procedure)
WeldabilityStated per alloy with procedure controls rather than “230 and 282 best”; 282’s relative resistance to strain-age cracking does not remove the need for procedure qualification
Filler & processFiller identity, process, preheat/interpass, heat input, cleanliness, root shielding, joint design, dissimilar joints and postweld condition specified per grade
Forming & machiningHot/cold forming, work hardening, machining, scale removal, tooling-contamination control and property restoration after fabrication

Hot-cracking and strain-age cracking risks are addressed in the qualified procedure; annealing temperature/time/cooling are set by grade, form and procedure.

Testing & Documentation

Testing and certification per an agreed inspection plan — certificate type alone does not require every advertised test.
ItemScope
Mechanical / grain sizeMethod, specimen condition and acceptance criteria agreed at ordering; grain-size, stress-rupture and elevated-tensile tests are ordered, not blanket-promised
PMIConfirms alloy identity within the instrument’s capability; does not replace full laboratory chemistry
CertificationEN 10204 3.1 (manufacturer) vs 3.2 (independent/third-party) — specified at ordering
TraceabilityHeat-number traceability supported

Required tests and the certificate type are agreed with the order rather than promised unconditionally.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Haynes grades does this page cover, and are they all in stock?

The page details five grades — Haynes 188, 230, 25/L605, 214 and 282 — with a wider catalogue directory (75, 263, 282, 556, 617, 625, 718, HR-120, HR-160, Waspaloy, X-750 and others) for enquiry reference. The directory is a producer catalogue reference, not a stock list; commercial availability, current chemistry and full datasets are confirmed per grade on enquiry. HAYNES is a trademark of Haynes International, and Sagiant is an independent supplier and stockist, not the producer.

What is the UNS number for Haynes 214 and 282?

Haynes 214 is UNS N07214 and Haynes 282 is UNS N07208. Equal UNS does not establish equal product standards, melt practice, grain size, heat treatment, fatigue properties or code acceptance — a chemistry cross-reference is not proof of identical product qualification.

What temperature can these alloys be used at?

There is no single family-wide operating range. Oxidation resistance, creep strength and permissible design temperature are different properties, and usable temperature depends on the alloy, atmosphere, applied stress, duration, thermal cycles and section thickness. Haynes 214 is positioned for very high oxidation resistance within defined conditions, but that is not an unrestricted ranking or a design-temperature guarantee.

Which specifications apply to each grade?

By grade: 188 to AMS 5608 (flat) and 5772 (bar/forging); 230 to AMS 5878/B435 (flat), 5891/B572 (bar), B622 (seamless), B619 (welded pipe) and B626 (welded tube); 25/L605 to AMS 5537 (flat) and 5759 (bar/forging); 282 to AMS 5951 (sheet/strip/plate only). Haynes 214 uses a verified specification per form or a customer specification confirmed at order. A dimensional standard or Class number does not by itself certify the alloy, and editions are confirmed per order.

Can Haynes 25/L605 be supplied for surgical implants?

Only against the actual implant-material specification and product qualification. Generic AMS-grade L605 stock is not advertised as implant-qualified simply because a chemistry cross-reference exists — implant supply requires the specific medical specification, melt practice and qualification, confirmed at enquiry.

How should these alloys be welded and heat treated?

There is no universal anneal or blanket “best weldability” grade. Each grade and form has its own solution temperature, hold, cooling and, where applicable, aging — for example Haynes 282 is solution treated then aged around 1010°C/2 h/air cool followed by 788°C/8 h/air cool. Filler identity, process, preheat/interpass, heat input and joint design are specified per grade, and 282’s relative resistance to strain-age cracking does not remove the need for procedure qualification.

What information is needed for a quotation?

Provide the grade, product form, dimensions and tolerances, quantity, condition, the exact specification and edition, service temperature, atmosphere, stress and cycles, required testing, traceability and certificate type (EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2), finish and delivery location. Availability and the accepted specification route are confirmed with the quotation.
