Basic Description

Sagiant Piping Industries supports enquiries for Alloy 330 (UNS N08330, Werkstoff 1.4886) as pipe, tube, buttweld and forged fittings, flanges, bars, sheet/plate, fasteners and furnace components. This nickel-iron-chromium-silicon heat-resistant alloy is widely used for heat-treatment and furnace parts; the producer quotes oxidation resistance to about 1148°C (2100°F), which is an oxidation figure — not a universal nitriding limit, fixture life or pressure-design temperature. Material is offered by product form against the correct ASTM references (B535 seamless, B511/B511M finished bar, B512 reforging stock, B536 plate/sheet, B546 EFW pipe, plus B710 and B739 welded routes), with the exact specification and edition confirmed per order and EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2 documentation. RA330® is a branded product meeting N08330 with tighter producer chemistry — generic inventory is not automatically RA330, and RA330-04 is a separate welding consumable. Sagiant is an independent supplier and stockist, not the alloy producer.

Technical Data

Alloy 330 (N08330): chemistry, properties, standards and RFQ data

Alloy 330 (N08330) composition (generic vs branded RA330), typical mechanical and physical reference data, standards by product form, supported dimensions and high-temperature service guidance. Producer reference values are shown separately from specification acceptance limits confirmed on the certificate; creep and stress-rupture govern furnace-fixture selection.

Sagiant is an independent supplier and stockist, not the alloy producer. Generic N08330 inventory is not automatically branded RA330; RA330 trademark attribution is kept distinct from Sagiant’s seller identity.

Chemical Composition (wt %)

Producer RA330 composition — a branded-product table, not a universal acceptance table for all generic N08330 supply. Generic N08330 limits are taken from the contracted specification.
ElementRA330 producer range, mass %
Nickel, Ni34.0–37.0
Chromium, Cr18.0–20.0
Silicon, Si1.0–1.5
Carbon, C0.04–0.08
Manganese, Mn≤2.0
Copper, Cu≤1.0
Phosphorus, P≤0.03
Sulfur, S≤0.03
Iron, FeBalance

Unlisted elements are not automatically zero. Specification limits, nominal producer composition and the actual heat analysis on the certificate are different datasets; the mill certificate governs. A separate generic N08330 column is added only after checking the complete table and notes in the contracted specification.

Alloy identity and designation cross-reference

Related records — matching chemistry alone does not establish identical properties, dimensions, inspection or design approval.
RecordIdentity / treatment
Generic base materialAlloy 330 / UNS N08330
Branded productRA330® — meets N08330 with tighter producer chemistry & processing
European cross-referenceWerkstoff 1.4886 (governing standard & condition confirmed before claiming interchangeability)
Trade nameINCOLOY® alloy 330 (identify producer & actual certification if supplied)
Related alloyUNS N08332 — a separate alloy appearing alongside N08330 in ASTM scopes; not a substitute
Welding consumableRA330-04 (UNS N08334) — separate record with different chemistry, not a base-metal grade
Comparison alloysRA333 (N06333), 800H/HT, 310, 601 — comparators, not 330 equivalents

A “330HC” / high-carbon designation is not listed as confirmed stock: it needs producer, full composition, recognised designation, wrought/cast route, heat treatment and current supply evidence before it can be treated as an ordinary N08330 heat.

Mechanical Properties

Typical mill-annealed producer data at ~20°C (70°F) — typical values, not replacement purchase minima. Acceptance minima come from the selected specification, form and condition.
Property (typical, 20°C)Value
Tensile strength~586 MPa (85 ksi)
0.2% yield strength~269 MPa (39 ksi)
Elongation~47%
Reduction of area~65%
Hardness70–85 HRB
Grain sizeASTM 4–7 (typical)
Poisson’s ratio0.297

For furnace-fixture selection the governing dataset is creep and stress-rupture behaviour, not room-temperature tensile values — elevated-temperature tensile, creep rate, stress-to-rupture, weldment and thermal-exposure data are supplied with the applicable qualified dataset (temperature, duration and extrapolation status stated), otherwise identified as unavailable. Code allowable stresses are distinguished from rupture averages.

Physical Properties

Producer reference physical data (temperature-dependent; confirm the checked revision and original units).
PropertyValue
Density~7.94 g/cm³ (0.287 lb/in³)
Melting range~1343–1393°C (2450–2540°F)
Modulus of elasticityPer producer temperature series (dynamic/static distinguished)
Poisson’s ratio0.297
Thermal / electricalSpecific heat, thermal conductivity, electrical resistivity and mean expansion per producer temperature table
Magnetic responseState applied field & condition

The density is ~7.94 g/cm³ (from 0.287 lb/in³), not the previously stated 8.08. A melting interval is not a maximum allowable operating temperature; temperature-dependent properties use all applicable source rows rather than a single unexplained constant.

Standards by Product Form

Material specification versus dimensional standard — a dimensional standard alone does not certify N08330 material. Editions confirmed per order.
Product formMaterial / dimensional reference
Seamless pipe & tubeASTM B535
Finished bars & shapesASTM B511/B511M
Billets/bars for reforgingASTM B512 (reforging stock only)
Plate / sheet / stripASTM B536
Electric fusion-welded pipeASTM B546 (manufacturing & inspection class identified)
Auto-welded pipe (no filler)ASTM B710
Welded tubeASTM B739 (OD × wall)
General-service tubing (alt.)ASTM A269/A269M lists N08330/N08332 — check complete requirements & order applicability
Buttweld fittingsASTM B366 — verify exact N08330 grade/class & edition; B16.9 dimensional basis
Forgings / flangesASTM B564 acceptance verified (or the actual alternative); B16.5 dimensions do not supply material certification
FastenersActual material, mechanical requirements, threads, condition & test plan (bar certification alone is insufficient)
Fabricated furnace partsDrawing, material standard, fabrication/welding procedure, dimensional acceptance & inspection

EN 10095, AMS 5592/5716 and ASME SB references are added only with verified product scope, current edition and actual certification. A producer’s general reference list is not a promise that every form meets every specification.

Available Forms, Sizes & Dimensions

Indicative supply scope — actual combinations confirmed per enquiry; not every schedule exists at every diameter.
FormRange / basis
PipeDiscrete NPS/schedule combinations by route; B36.10M / B36.19M (S) basis where applicable, subject to mill confirmation
Auto-welded pipe (B710)Through NPS 12 in schedules 5S/10S/40S/80S; other dimensions when remaining requirements are met & documented
TubeStated as OD × wall, nominal/minimum wall basis, seamless/welded route, lengths, ends & tolerances
Bar / shapesBy dimension & condition, subject to confirmation
Sheet / plate / stripBy thickness & tolerance per form
Flanges (Class 150–1500)Type, facing, bore, class, material specification & design basis stated; material acceptance verified

Class is a rating designation, not pressure in psi, and those ratings do not apply at high service temperatures such as 1150°C. Unsupported combinations are marked “not standardized”, “not offered” or “subject to mill confirmation” rather than filled with guessed walls.

Service: Oxidation, Carburisation & Nitriding

Distinct high-temperature mechanisms — resistance is not immunity, and each has its own limits.
MechanismConsideration
OxidationProducer oxidation resistance to ~1148°C (2100°F); not a universal service, nitriding or pressure-design temperature
CarburisationGood resistance in carburising atmospheres; documented RA330 failures under severe carbon conditions (metal dusting)
NitridingNitrogen-induced embrittlement and service-life tradeoffs apply; not a blanket nitriding limit
Environment factorsAtmosphere, temperature, duration/cycles, carbon potential, nitrogen activity, oxygen potential, sulphur contamination and applied stress
AqueousChloride-SCC resistance is not extended into blanket chloride pitting, crevice, seawater or acid resistance

The protective scale behaviour depends on alloy chemistry and surface-scale condition together; oxidation, carburisation, nitriding, carbonitriding, metal dusting, thermal fatigue and aqueous corrosion are assessed separately for the actual atmosphere and duty.

Applications

Furnace and heat-treatment equipment; selection confirmed against actual load, temperature and atmosphere.
ComponentConsiderations
Furnace baskets & fixturesLoad, support spacing, thermal expansion & cyclic duty
Retorts & mufflesAtmosphere containment & thermal cycling
Radiant tubes & fansTemperature, atmosphere & distortion control
Quench fixtures & conveyorsThermal shock, loading & wear

Generic industry names alone do not establish suitability; equipment, process conditions and selection limitations are reviewed for each case.

Welding, Heat Treatment & Fabrication

Qualified-process guidance; consumable selection matters for RA330 service performance.
OperationGuidance
Welding fillerRA330-04 recommended for RA330; the producer cautions against AWS ER330 wire and E330-16 electrodes for RA330 service
ProcedureFull-penetration joints, qualified WPS, preheat/interpass control, shielding/back purge, cleanliness, heat input & hot-cracking control
Forming & machiningHot/cold forming, work hardening, machining practice and scale removal per qualified practice
Heat treatmentNot age-hardenable, but this does not mean it “never needs heat treatment”; annealing temperature/time/cooling are set by form and procedure
InspectionWeld inspection and dissimilar-joint limits per the qualified procedure

“Matching / over-alloyed filler” is too vague for RA330 — the specific consumable (RA330-04) and the cautions above are stated to avoid the wrong selection.

Testing & Documentation

Testing and certification per the confirmed order scope.
ItemScope
Grain sizeASTM B536 states no grain-size requirement for N08330 (it treats N08332 differently); a supplementary grain-size test can be ordered with stated method, acceptance criterion & documentation
PMIConfirms alloy identity within the instrument’s capability; does not replace full laboratory chemistry
CertificationEN 10204 3.1 (manufacturer) vs 3.2 (independent/third-party) — specified at ordering
TraceabilityHeat-number traceability supported

A producer’s typical grain size is not a universal ASTM requirement; certificate type and required tests are agreed at ordering rather than promised unconditionally.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Alloy 330 the same as RA330 and UNS N08330?

Alloy 330 is the generic UNS N08330 grade; RA330® is a branded product that meets N08330 with tighter producer chemistry and processing. They are not interchangeable labels — generic N08330 inventory is not automatically RA330. Werkstoff 1.4886 and INCOLOY® alloy 330 are cross-reference names. We identify material by UNS N08330 and the applicable specification, and Sagiant is an independent supplier and stockist, not the alloy producer.

Do you supply a “330HC” high-carbon grade?

A “330HC” designation is not listed as confirmed stock. A carbon content above the base N08330 specification cannot simply be presented as an ordinary heat — it needs a named producer, full composition, a recognised designation, the wrought or cast route, heat treatment and mechanical/creep data before it can be quoted. UNS N08332 is a separate related alloy, not automatically 330HC or a substitute.

What is the composition of Alloy 330?

Producer RA330 limits are approximately Ni 34–37, Cr 18–20, Si 1.0–1.5, C 0.04–0.08, with Mn, Cu, P and S controlled and iron as balance. That is a branded-product table, not a universal acceptance table for all generic N08330 supply; generic limits come from the contracted specification, and the mill certificate governs. Unlisted elements are not automatically zero.

Which specifications apply to Alloy 330 by product form?

Seamless pipe/tube to ASTM B535, finished bars/shapes to B511/B511M, reforging stock to B512, plate/sheet/strip to B536, electric fusion-welded pipe to B546, auto-welded pipe (no filler) to B710 and welded tube to B739. A269/A269M is a general-service tubing route that lists N08330/N08332. Fitting (B366) and forging/flange (B564) grade coverage is verified for the exact edition; a dimensional standard alone does not certify the material. Editions are confirmed per order with EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2 documentation.

What temperature can Alloy 330 be used at?

The producer quotes oxidation resistance to about 1148°C (2100°F). That is an oxidation figure, not a universal nitriding limit, a guaranteed fixture life or a pressure-design temperature. Oxidation, carburisation, nitriding and metal dusting are different mechanisms with different limits, and usable temperature depends on atmosphere, stress, cycles and duration — for furnace-fixture selection the governing data are creep and stress-rupture, not room-temperature strength.

What welding consumable is used for RA330?

The producer recommends RA330-04 filler for RA330 and cautions against using AWS ER330 wire and E330-16 electrodes, which perform differently in service. A vague “matching or over-alloyed filler” instruction is not sufficient. Weld procedures use full-penetration joints and are qualified for the intended service.

What information is needed for a quotation?

Provide the product form, dimensions and tolerances, quantity, condition, the exact specification and edition, service temperature, atmosphere, loading and thermal cycles, required testing, traceability and certificate type (EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2), finish and delivery location. Availability and the accepted specification route are confirmed with the quotation.
