How it is made
Bars are hot-rolled or forged from bloom/billet, then optionally cold-finished — cold-drawn, centreless-ground or turned/peeled — for close tolerance (h9/h11) and a bright surface. Stainless is solution annealed and pickled; free-machining 303 has controlled sulphur for machinability; alloy steels are quenched & tempered to the required condition. Because carbon and alloy bar mechanicals depend on the heat-treatment condition and section size, those values are given as typical for the condition and confirmed on the MTC; stainless and duplex bar carry the ASTM A276/A479 specification minima.

Frequently asked questions
What is a bright bar?
A cold-finished bar — cold-drawn, ground or turned/peeled — with a close tolerance (typically h9/h11) and a bright, smooth surface, ready for machining or direct fitting.
What tolerance and finish?
h9/h11 dimensional tolerance and a bright surface; ground/peeled bar gives the finest finish and straightness.
Which sections and grades?
Round, square and hex in stainless, alloy and carbon grades, cut to length.
