How it is made
Forgings are open- or closed-die forged from bar or billet, then heat treated to the grade requirement — carbon A105 as-forged or normalised; low-temp A350 normalised (and tempered) with Charpy testing; Cr-Mo A182 F-grades normalised & tempered; austenitic stainless solution annealed; duplex solution annealed and rapidly cooled. Socket-weld and threaded fittings are machined to ASME B16.11 (NPT threads to ASME B1.20.1); Class denotes a pressure-temperature rating basis, not a pressure in psi.

Frequently asked questions
What pressure classes are forged fittings available in?
Threaded fittings are Class 2000, 3000 and 6000; socket-weld fittings are Class 3000, 6000 and 9000, per ASME B16.11. Class is a designation, not a pressure in psi — the actual permitted pressure depends on the material, temperature, size, governing code and installation. Not every class exists for every fitting type and NPS.
Does the schedule “equivalence” give the fitting bore or the pressure rating?
Neither directly. B16.11 gives a pipe-wall correlation used to calculate ratings; it is not the actual fitting bore, and it is not a pressure rating on its own. Threaded Class 6000 has its own correlation and does not simply inherit the socket-weld Class 6000 (Sch 160) value, so the correct figure is taken from the ordered edition for the specific end type and class.
Is A105N a different grade from A105?
No — A105N is A105 supplied in the normalized heat-treatment condition, not a separate chemistry grade. We state the actual condition and the applicable heat-treatment requirements rather than treating “A105N” as its own grade.
Is A182 F44 a duplex stainless?
No. F44 (UNS S31254) is a 6% molybdenum super-austenitic stainless, not a duplex, so it is listed under high-alloy austenitic stainless. The duplex / super-duplex grades are separate — and F51 (S31803) vs F60 (S32205), and F53 (S32750) vs F55 (S32760), are distinct designations that do not automatically dual-certify.
Which MSS standards apply to inserts, swage nipples and unions?
MSS SP-79 covers socket-welding reducer inserts; MSS SP-95 covers swage nipples and bull plugs (not bushings / plugs); and MSS SP-83 covers Class 3000 / 6000 unions. Integrally reinforced branch outlets are MSS SP-97, added only where actually supplied. The exact edition, class, ends, size and materials are confirmed per order.
Are NPT and BSP threads interchangeable?
No. NPT (ASME B1.20.1) and BSP (BSPT / BSPP) are different thread forms with different sealing arrangements and are not interchangeable. BSP is supplied on request against its own governing standard, with the exact designation and sealing method specified; standard NPT compliance is kept separate from custom thread products.
What information is needed for a quotation?
Provide the fitting type, all end sizes, the class, socket-weld or thread form, the material grade / class / condition, the standard and edition, service and design conditions, required tests and certification, quantity and any drawing. Availability by grade, class and size is confirmed with the quotation.
