How it is made

Flat-rolled product is hot-rolled from slab and, for thinner gauges, cold-rolled and annealed. Stainless is solution annealed and pickled (No.1), or cold-rolled to 2B / BA / No.4 finishes; carbon pressure-vessel plate (A516) is supplied as-rolled, normalised or normalised & tempered with Charpy impact testing; Cr-Mo plate (A387) is normalised & tempered. Plate is ultrasonically examined to ASTM A578 where the code or client requires; coil is supplied mill-edge or slit to width for downstream blanking and forming.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently asked questions

Which plate grade for a pressure vessel?

ASTM A516 (Gr.60/70) carbon and A387 Cr-Mo alloy are the common pressure-vessel plate grades, with A240 stainless/duplex for corrosion service — supplied with impact testing where required.

What thickness range?

From 6 mm upward, hot-rolled, normalised or quenched-and-tempered per grade, cut or profiled to order.

Is ultrasonic testing available?

Yes — UT to ASTM A578 (or the specified level) for plate where the code or client requires it.
