Nimonic Alloys: Grades, Properties & Product Forms
Basic Description
Sagiant Piping Industries supports enquiries for NIMONIC nickel-base superalloys — Nimonic 75 (UNS N06075), 80A (N07080), 90 (N07090), 105 and 263 (N07263) — primarily as bar, forging stock, forgings and rings, sheet/plate/strip, wire, fasteners and tube for gas-turbine, aerospace and high-temperature applications. Nimonic 75 is a solid-solution grade; 80A, 90, 105 and 263 are precipitation-hardened (solution-treated and aged), and their heat-treatment cycles differ by grade and form. Producer development-temperature ranges for the aged grades are roughly 815–950°C, which are not universal allowable design temperatures — usable temperature depends on stress, life, atmosphere and exposure. Grades are compared by composition, condition, applicable BS HR/AMS specification and service, and availability and documentation (EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2) are confirmed against each enquiry. NIMONIC is a registered trademark of Special Metals Corporation; Sagiant is an independent supplier and stockist, not the alloy producer.
Nimonic grades: chemistry, properties, standards and RFQ reference data
Grade-by-grade composition, condition-scoped mechanical (including creep basis) and physical reference data, BS HR/AMS material routes by product form and application guidance. Producer reference values are shown separately from specification acceptance limits confirmed on the certificate; Nimonic 75 is solid-solution, not age-hardened.

Producer/BS HR reference limits; “bal” denotes balance and is not a fixed value; a dash means not separately specified, not zero. The 105 UNS is shown as not verified rather than guessed. These are not full heat analyses — the purchase specification edition and heat/product certificate control acceptance, and specification limits must not be mixed with tighter producer limits.
Nimonic Grade Directory (reference)
| Grade | UNS | Status | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| 75 | N06075 | Core | Solid-solution Ni-Cr; not age-hardened |
| 80A | N07080 | Core | Age-hardened (Ti/Al); turbine blades/fasteners |
| 90 | N07090 | Core | Age-hardened Ni-Cr-Co; higher strength |
| 105 | not verified | Core | Co-Mo-Al age-hardened; confirm UNS/spec |
| 263 | N07263 | Core | Age-hardened; developed for fabrication/weldability |
| 81 | reference | Reference | ~30% Cr, Ti/Al-strengthened (per its bulletin) — verify designation; producer index metadata is suspect |
| 86 / 115 | reference | Reference | Confirm chemistry, forms and designation independently (115 ≠ 105) |
| 901 | N09901 | Reference | Ni-Fe-Cr; do not force nickel balance by analogy |
| PE11 / PE16 | reference | Reference | Ni-Fe-Cr / Ni-Cr-Fe variants; distinct records |
| PK33 | reference | Reference | Source-specific record on enquiry |
“Core” grades appear on this page; “Reference” names are documented in producer literature and quoted until chemistry, form, specification and availability are confirmed — a listing is not a stock statement, and even producer index pages can carry metadata errors. Historical names (original 80, 100, OEM-modified conditions) and boundary items such as cobalt-base MP35N are tracked separately and are not merged with the 75–115 turbine grades.
Mechanical Properties (room-temperature reference)
| Grade / condition | Tensile (MPa) | 0.2% proof (MPa) | Elong. % |
|---|---|---|---|
| 75, solution-annealed (solid-solution) | ~750 | ~300 | ~40 |
| 80A, solution-treated + aged | ~1000 | ~620 | ~30 |
| 90, solution-treated + aged | ~1240 | ~810 | ~20 |
| 105, solution-treated + aged | ~1150 | ~830 | ~16 |
| 263, solution-treated + aged | ~970 | ~580 | ~25 |
Typical room-temperature values in the fully heat-treated condition, not contractual minima; they lack the product form, size, grain-size and test basis needed for design. Nimonic 75 is annealed (solid-solution), the others are solution-treated and aged. For a turbine-alloy reference, room-temperature tensile data alone is insufficient — elevated-temperature tensile, creep strain vs stress/temperature/time, stress-rupture life and ductility, low-/high-cycle and thermal fatigue, and stress relaxation for bolts/springs are supplied per grade and condition from the ordered specification, with measured data distinguished from extrapolation. Do not derive code allowable stresses from tensile strength.
Physical Properties (density & melting)
| Grade | Density (g/cm³) | Melting range (°C, approx.) |
|---|---|---|
| 75 | 8.37 | 1340–1380 |
| 80A | 8.19 | 1320–1365 |
| 90 | 8.18 | 1310–1370 |
| 105 | 8.01 | 1290–1345 |
| 263 | 8.36 | 1300–1355 |
Producer reference densities near ambient. Melting ranges are approximate producer reference values and are not service temperatures. Use the grade-specific density in the weight calculator, not one family value. Specific heat, thermal conductivity, mean thermal-expansion coefficient (with its temperature interval), elastic and shear modulus, Poisson’s ratio, electrical resistivity and permeability — with their temperature dependence, important for turbine assemblies — are provided per grade on enquiry, with measured and calculated data identified. A family-wide “non-magnetic” statement is not published as a precision property.
Standards & Designations
| Grade / form | Reference direction | Boundary |
|---|---|---|
| 75 bar / forging stock | BS HR 5 | Verify product coverage and ordered revision |
| 75 flat products / tube | BS HR 203 (flat) / BS HR 403 (tube) | Form-specific; not interchangeable |
| 80A | BS HR references by form (bar, sheet, tube, wire) — verify per order | AMS 5542 does NOT apply (it covers X-750 sheet/strip/plate) |
| 90 | BS HR references by form | AMS 5829 belongs only to welding wire, not forgings/rings |
| 105 | BS HR 3 tied to form/condition | UNS not verified — do not invent one |
| 263 bar / forgings | BS HR 10 | — |
| 263 flat / seamless tube | BS HR 206 / AMS 5872 (flat); BS HR 404 (tube) | Confirm exact scope |
| Other grades | Individual producer / OEM specifications | No blanket ASTM B637 mapping |
Aerospace BS HR specifications, AMS specifications, OEM requirements and dimensional standards are separate systems and are not conflated. There is no “ASTM B637-style” compliance — B637 requires the exact UNS, form, treatment and edition, and does not cover tube/plate from a bar/forging standard. Designations are cross-references, not substitution approvals: 90 is N07090/2.4632 and 263 N07263/2.4650 on their verified basis; 75/80A dual Werkstoff references need form/standard caveats; 105 UNS is not verified. Shared names or related national grades do not establish identical chemistry, treatment, creep life or qualification. For aerospace supply, the approved source, melt route, material/process specifications and traceability are recorded as ordered — a generic MTC does not establish OEM approval.
Product Forms, Sizes & Availability
Availability is confirmed per enquiry with stocked / sourced / made-to-order status by grade — the ranges below are indicative and verified against supply records per order.
| Form | Size range (indicative) | Condition | Reference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bar / forging stock | 6–250 mm dia (verify per grade) | Annealed (75) / solution + aged | BS HR / AMS by grade |
| Finished forgings & rings | By drawing / specification | Per ordered heat treatment | |
| Sheet / plate / strip | 0.5–40 mm thick (verify per grade) | Solution-treated (+ aged where specified) | BS HR flat references |
| Seamless tube | OD × wall (75, 263 where offered) | Per specification | BS HR 403 / 404 |
| Fasteners | M6–M48 (verify by grade) | Aged; with thread/creep-relaxation basis | Component / drawing |
These grades are supplied primarily as bar, sheet and forgings; scheduled pipe is not a standard offering — pipe/fitting/flange dimensions are by specification or drawing, and a universal NPS schedule table is not implied. Where scheduled pipe is genuinely required, the actual NPS/DN/OD/wall, dimensional standard (B36.10M / B36.19M) and grade-specific mass are confirmed on enquiry, separate from alloy qualification. See the weight calculator for grade-specific mass.
Applications & Temperature
Every temperature statement depends on grade, microstructure, stress/load, required life, atmosphere and continuous/intermittent/cyclic exposure. Producer development-temperature statements (roughly 815–950°C for the aged grades) are not universal allowable design temperatures; melting point, annealing temperature, oxidation-test temperature and long-term allowable metal temperature are different quantities.
Welding, Heat Treatment & Fabrication
Testing & Documentation
| Item | Basis |
|---|---|
| Heat chemistry | Laboratory analysis; PMI confirms major elements only and cannot verify all trace elements, heat treatment, grain structure or creep life |
| Tensile (room / elevated) | Per ordered specification, form and condition |
| Stress rupture / creep | Where ordered — temperature, stress, time and acceptance stated |
| Grain size / hardness | Per specification; specimen location/orientation stated |
| NDE / dimensional | Ultrasonic/surface and dimensional examination per product form |
| Certification | EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2 (3.2 needs the agreed independent validation; not every listed test is automatically included) |
Specify which tests are standard, optional or project-dependent, with method, specimen location and acceptance. Confirm availability of tests and certificates before promising them unconditionally.
Industries Served
The correct grade, form and condition depend on the specific component, temperature, stress, required life and atmosphere — the industry label alone does not select the alloy.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Nimonic 75 a precipitation-hardening alloy?
No. Nimonic 75 is a solid-solution nickel-chromium alloy supplied in the annealed condition; it is not age-hardened and does not deliver the creep strength of the precipitation-hardened grades. Nimonic 80A, 90, 105 and 263 are the age-hardened (solution-treated and aged) grades.
How do Nimonic 80A, 90, 105 and 263 differ?
All are age-hardened Ni-Cr(-Co) turbine alloys but differ in strengthening and temperature capability: 80A (Ti/Al) for blades and fasteners; 90 adds cobalt for higher strength; 105 adds molybdenum and higher aluminium for higher-temperature aged strength; 263 is developed for fabrication and welded-assembly ductility with useful aged strength. Grade selection depends on component, temperature, stress and required life.
Which forms is Nimonic actually supplied in?
Primarily bar, forging stock, finished forgings and rings, sheet/plate/strip, wire and fasteners, with tube for some grades. Scheduled pipe is not a standard offering — where pipe, fittings or flanges are required, dimensions are by specification or drawing and confirmed per enquiry, not from a universal NPS schedule table.
What standards apply to Nimonic grades?
These are largely aerospace BS HR specifications with some AMS and OEM requirements, by grade and form — for example 75 to BS HR 5 (bar) / HR 203 (flat) / HR 403 (tube), and 263 to BS HR 10 (bar/forgings) / HR 206 or AMS 5872 (flat) / HR 404 (tube). There is no blanket “ASTM B637-style” compliance, and AMS numbers must match the exact alloy and form.
What does a temperature rating like 815–950°C mean?
It is a producer development-temperature range for the aged grades, not a universal allowable design temperature. The usable temperature depends on grade, microstructure, stress/load, required life, atmosphere and whether exposure is continuous, intermittent or cyclic. Melting point, annealing temperature and oxidation-test temperature are separate quantities.
Are Nimonic alloys corrosion-resistant like the C-type nickel alloys?
No. Nimonic grades are selected for high-temperature strength and oxidation/hot-corrosion resistance in gas paths, not for aqueous acid or seawater service. Oxidation resistance is not evidence of general corrosion resistance, and no generic “NACE approved” or corrosion-proof claim applies.
Does the datasheet cover creep and fatigue?
Room-temperature tensile data alone is not sufficient for these alloys. Elevated-temperature tensile, creep strain versus stress/temperature/time, stress-rupture life and ductility, and low-/high-cycle or thermal fatigue are supplied per grade and condition from the ordered specification, with measured data distinguished from extrapolation. Code allowable stresses are not derived from tensile strength.
