How it is made

Bars are hot-rolled or forged from bloom/billet, then optionally cold-finished — cold-drawn, centreless-ground or turned/peeled — for close tolerance (h9/h11) and a bright surface. Stainless is solution annealed and pickled; free-machining 303 has controlled sulphur for machinability; alloy steels are quenched & tempered to the required condition. Because carbon and alloy bar mechanicals depend on the heat-treatment condition and section size, those values are given as typical for the condition and confirmed on the MTC; stainless and duplex bar carry the ASTM A276/A479 specification minima.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently asked questions

What are hex bars used for?

Making nuts, fittings, valve parts and machined components where the hexagon across-flats matches a spanner or socket size.

Which grade for machining?

Free-machining 303 stainless is common for high-volume machined parts; 304/316 where corrosion resistance is required.

What sizes are available?

Roughly 7–65 mm across flats in bright finish, cut to length, with tolerance per order.
