How it is made
A lateral tee is a run / branch tee whose branch meets the run at an angle (commonly 45°), forming a Y-shaped take-off, made either integrally formed / forged or by qualified welded construction to an approved geometry. The tee body is supplied in the specified condition (A860 WPHY normalised, normalised & tempered or quenched & tempered; austenitic stainless solution annealed; duplex solution annealed and quenched); weld ends are bevelled to ASME B16.25. The branch angle, junction / crotch geometry, any local reinforcement and the weld details follow the approved drawing and the project code; only qualified run / branch / angle combinations are supplied.

Frequently asked questions
What is a lateral tee?
A lateral tee is a run / branch tee whose branch meets the run at an angle (commonly 45°) rather than 90°, giving a Y-form take-off. It is made to an approved geometry, and only qualified run / branch / angle combinations are supplied.
Does the 45° branch give lower pressure loss than a 90° tee?
It can for a defined case, but not as a universal rule. Loss depends on combining versus dividing flow, flow direction and split, the diameter ratio, bore transitions, surface condition and fluid properties — so we give a geometry-specific comparison where required rather than a blanket lower-loss claim.
Is a lateral tee the same as a 45° branch outlet or a Y-piece?
Not necessarily. An equal lateral, a reducing lateral, a symmetric Y-piece and a 45° branch-outlet fitting are different finished products; the label alone does not establish interchangeable geometry or certification, so the exact design and construction are confirmed per drawing.
Which standards apply to a lateral tee?
The tee body follows ASME B16.9 for dimensions, or MSS SP-75 for high-yield (WPHY) wrought pipeline fittings, with ASME B16.25 end preparation. The finished lateral is qualified to the approved drawing and the project code; a standard designation alone does not qualify a custom pressure-containing assembly.
How are lateral-tee weights and dimensions quoted?
Per finished item, from the CAD model or BOM. A 90° equal-tee weight or a straight-pipe formula does not represent a lateral, because the branch intersection and finished junction geometry differ; custom dimensions and weight are issued with the approved drawing.
What do you need to quote a lateral tee?
Provide run and branch NPS and wall, equal or reducing configuration, the branch angle and orientation, body material, standard editions, design / service conditions, the drawing where available, and the required inspection and documentation package. Availability by material, size and design is confirmed with the quotation.
